A welterweight championship between Tyron Woodley who defended his belt against the No.1 contender Stephen Thompson at UFC 205. Stephen will get one more chance as he gets a rematch against Tyron at UFC 209 on March 4 in Las Vegas.
Tyron Woodley(16-3-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) and Stephen Thompson(13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) gave us an incredible match at New York, when they fought to a five-round majority draw at UFC 205 last year on 12 November. One judge scored the match in favour of Woodley while other two judges scored it a draw with Thompson winning 3 out of the 5 rounds and Woodley scoring 10-8 in the other two.
Woodley made the announcement of this match during his podcast on Monday. A signed bout agreement on Social Media was posted by Thompson this Sunday and said he was waiting for Woodley to accept the bout as reported in abc News.
Woodley has given a brilliant fight against Michael Bisping and has confirmed on Thompson's podcast and the two would be seen again on the battleground in UFC 209. The news was later confirmed by the UFC president Dana White with John Morgan of MMA Junkie as reported in Sports Illustrated.
"March 4, UFC 209 in Las Vegas, Nevada, what I believe to be the T-Mobile Center, you will see "Wonderboy" get the worst a-- whooping of his life," Woodley said. "You need to be careful what you ask for. 'Wonderboy' you want it - come get it. You want a fight, you want to get done worse than you did the first time?"
Tyron Woodley made his UFC debut in the year 2013 and has won 16 out of his 20 matches at MMA while Stephen Thompson who made his debut in the year 2012 and has won 13 out of 15 MMA matches he has been in. Both the fighters are tough and experienced. Let's see who has the final smile on March 4.
