Howard and his Houston Rockets were in town to face the Clippers and the website reports as he was walking to the locker room following a 137-118 loss, someone threw a ball from the stands that struck him squarely in the head.
TMZ reports Howard was convinced whoever had the ball threw it at him intentionally, prompting him to immediately seek out security and report the incident. Source say security found and detained the man responsible, described as a 22-year-old, and the LAPD was eventually became involved.
According to TMZ, the man maintained that he was an autograph seeker and just wanted Howard's signature on the ball. He added he simply lost his grip and accidentally dropped the ball on the former Lakers star.
TMZ reports the man's version of the story was upheld after police reviewed video footage of the incident and determined it was an accident that had been blown of proportion.
