Valentina Shevchenko recently opened up about the ordeal she went through in Peru.

The UFC fighter was involved in a whirlwind of an ordeal as a robbery turned into a full-fledged shootout. Shevchenko was eating at a chicken restaurant with her trainer, Pavel Fedotov, when the gun-toting robbers came in.

Shevchenko broke her silence about the incident.

"It's a situation like you never know when it's [gonna] happen and it was like, why is this happening to me?" Shevchenko told TMZ Sports. "It cannot be like this right now, but when it happened it was just a [few] seconds and it was just action. When I saw that the robbers were close to us, it was really scary because it's only one thing, they can [shoot] ... so it was you go or they go, so I'm very happy that it's over."

During the robbery, Fedotov took out a gun and began shooting at the robbers, killing one, while another shot him in the stomach. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Despite the ordeal, Shevchenko has vowed to still fight former UFC women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm on "UFC on Fox 20" on July 23 at the United Center in Chicago.

"I will fight Holly," Shevchenko told TMZ Sports earlier this month."I am feeling good. No injuries. Just a few days was a very big stress to me. I'm just starting to feel better now."

The Russian UFC star was unharmed in the incident, and afterward she praised Fedotov for his quick action.

"The Act of Pavel was not only in self-defense, but also the defense of my life and also of the people who were by my side!" Shevchenko wrote in a statement via MMAFighting.com.

UFC president Dana White expressed concern for Shevchenko shortly after the incident and at first couldn't commit to her keeping the fight.

"When things like that happen, it puts you in touch with your mortality," White said via TMZ.

Nevertheless, Shevchenko is headed toward a fight with Holm.
