Troy Aikman Called 'Queer' By Dexter Manley: Former Redskin's Homophobic Slur Challenged On Air [AUDIO]

Former Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley had some choice words for former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current Fox Sports football analyst Troy Aikman in a radio spot for Washington D.C.'s WTOP radio station on Monday. When the hosts brought up the fact that Aikman--an ex-Cowboys quarterback--called the Redskins game against the Denver Broncos last Sunday and asked Manley whether or not he believed it jinxed his former team, he responded by calling Aikman a homophobic slur.

"I think Troy Aikman's a queer," Manley told the hosts, according to The Washington Post.

The hosts then jumped on the former defensive end and asked him if he wanted to apologize and recant his statement.

"I'm sorry about that," he said. "I take that back....I apologize."

Aikman is a Hall of Fame quarterback who led Dallas to three Super Bowl championships in the 1990s, while Manley is an All-Pro former defensive end.

As a result of his actions, WTOP's news director, Jim Farley, said via Twitter and an e-mail to The Washington Post that the station was both "shocked and stunned" over Manley's comments and that he would no longer be coming back to do his regular radio spots at the station.

The station released the following statement following the incident:

"This morning in a live interview former Redskins player Dexter Manley made an offensive and derogatory comment. He was immediately challenged by WTOP news anchors Mike Moss and Bruce Alan. We were shocked and stunned and we apologize to our listeners that this happened on WTOP.

WTOP has contacted a representative for Manley and informed her that he will not be returning."

Manley has said in the past that he had two brain surgeries and they've affected him.

"I lose my memory and all of a sudden it comes back," he told the station in August, according to The Washington Post. "I could be driving and not know where I'm going, or what's the purpose of where I'm going to. It hasn't been easy."

The Washington Post reports that Manley released an e-mail apologizing to Aikman for his remarks:

"In an interview with WTOP radio Monday, while intending to be funny, I used a slur to refer to Troy Aikman. It was wrong and insensitive. Anyone that knows me knows that's not who I am in my heart or mind. I want to apologize to Troy, but I mostly want to apologize to anyone else I offended. Like a lot of people in these times, I have to realize that what I thought was funny years ago doesn't work now. I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again and hope you will accept my apology," the statement read.

The Redskins fell to the Broncos 45-21 Sunday, but Aikman calling the game had nothing to do with it--that is, depending on whom you ask.
