Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is already being linked to several fighters less than two months before his World Boxing Council middleweight title defense against Amir Khan on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Recent reports indicated that he is open to facing Manny Pacquiao and Gennady Golovkin, but Alvarez insisted that he is focused on his upcoming fight against Khan.

Alvarez, who has 46 wins against just one loss and one draw in his 11-year professional boxing career, said in an interview with BoxingScene that he is not treating the bout against Khan as preparation for bigger bouts like the long-awaited showdown with Golovkin.

"I'm not focusing on whether or not a fight with Khan will benefit me with going against Golovkin," Alvarez said. "There are many fighters out there. During these moments, I have no reason at all to think about Golovkin. I've already fought the best at 25-years-old and I don't need to be searching for opponents like others do."

Alvarez, who is coming off a unanimous decision win against Miguel Cotto in November last year, is considered heavy favorite heading into his first title defense. Aside from the fact that he has a better record, the Mexican boxing superstar is expected to have a huge size advantage on fight night after Khan agreed at 155 pounds catchweight.

Khan, who parades a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, has won in his last five bouts but the Bolton, England native will be in an unfamiliar territory in the fight against Canelo since he has not fought above 147 pounds before. Alvarez is also expected to rehydrate to more than 170 pounds on fight night.

While most boxing fans and analysts are already counting Khan out, Alvarez insisted that he cannot relax, knowing that Khan is a dangerous opponent, contrary to what other pundits are saying.

"I'm taking this fight seriously against Amir Khan," Alvarez told ESPN Deportes via BoxingScene. "My preparation is equal to or even better than the one I did for Miguel Cotto. I'm just focused on Amir Khan and I respect all of my opponents. At this level there is no small opponent, and I will not get caught up in believing that Khan is."
