Lolo Jones is holding nothing back to get on the USA Olympic bobsled team. Literally.
Several media outlets reported Saturday that Jones, better known as a track and field Olympian, earned a spot on the U.S. World Cup team, which gives her a chance to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
USA TODAY Sports reported that Jones, a push athlete, and bobsled driver Jazmine Fenlator finished third at a U.S. selection race on Friday in Park City, Utah, to earn a spot on the World Cup team. They also finished third at a selection race on Oct. 12 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
To earn the speed required for a third-place finish, Jones apparently tried an unusual tactic as she tweeted after the race.
"When I told @JazmineFenlator I peed a little bit in the back seat when she hit curve 13 #bobsled #Team https://instagram.com/p/f8U3yInJ6d/"
According to USA TODAY Sports, the World Cup roster spot is not a guarantee that Jones will make the USA Olympic team. The U.S. is guaranteed at least one team but can qualify as many as three teams to compete at the Sochi Games, based on results of the World Cup races.
"This is the fastest and most prepared group of athletes we've ever seen," U.S. Bobsled & Skeleton Federation CEO Darrin Steele said, as reported by USA TODAY Sports. "It was difficult to narrow the women's push field to six and it will be even more challenging to select the top three for the Olympic team in a few months. The hard work and dedication has paid off and I couldn't be more proud of all these athletes."
Jones, 31, first joined the U.S. national bobsled team in October 2012 and competed in the World Cup bobsledding competition the following month. She and the U.S. team won gold at the FIBT World Championships in January 2013.
Jones finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics.
