Tonight at 8:07 p.m. the St. Louis Cardinals will look to assume control of the World Series at Busch Stadium when they host the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 on Fox. Live stream the game here; Red Sox fans can listen to the game on WEEI 93.7, while Cardinals fans can do the same on 1120 KMOX.
After Boston capitalized on shaky defense by the Cardinals in Game 1 at Fenway Park, St. Louis returned the favor after Red Sox reliever Craig Breslow threw a ball away late allowing the Cardinals to take the lead.
Taking Game 2 was important for the Cardinals, because now the Red Sox will not be at full strength for the next three games. Without the luxury of a designated hitter in National League lineups, Boston must decide whether David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, or Jarrod Saltalamacchia will sit out. Napoli was a catcher by trade, but a hip condition now precludes him from squatting behind the plate.
Also, David Ortiz's hot bat simply can't be taken out of the lineup. "Obviously David's bat, at all costs, needs to be in the lineup," Red Sox starter Jake Peavy said. "David is a game-changer. He's as clutch as anybody I can remember playing with or against."
Peavy will be starting tonight for the Sox against Joe Kelly of St. Louis. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny thinks the combination of the home crowd and the lack of stadium quirks will help his club feel more at ease.
"I believe our ballpark is very fair. I don't think there's one thing that would make our team any more effective in this park than any other," Matheny said. "It's not like there's the oddities, like a Green Monster or deep corners and gaps."
