Andrew Bogut, the 2005 top pick who has been injury prone throughout his career, has received a three year, $36-million contract extension from the Golden State Warriors who hope the Australian big man will stay healthy and give them a solid inside presence as they try to stay among the elite teams in the Western Conference.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the contract extension was agreed upon by the team and Bogut last Friday, with the center potentially earning up to $42 million if his health holds up and he accomplishes certain milestones like becoming an All-Star or ending up in the All-Defensive team.

The contract extension comes in the heels of Bogut's strong play in the recent playoffs, where he helped the team reach the second round of the Western Conference bracket. In the game 6 clincher against the Nuggets, he scored 21 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and swatted away four shots. He also played well against Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs, although the Warriors fell short in six games.

Bogut was originally picked by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2005 Draft, which also included All-Star guard Chris Paul of the LA Clippers and Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets. He was sent to the Warriors in March 2012 in exchange for Monta Ellis. But he did not play for the team the rest of the season because of nagging injuries.

With Bogut staying in the Bay Area for the next three years, the Warriors hope to challenge the Western Conference powers like the Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder behind their emerging superstar Stephen Curry.
