Perhaps, LeBron James knew something the rest of us don't when he spoke glowingly of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich at the NBA All-Star Break.

In light of the Kevin Durant-to-the-Warriors rumors, Pop may be James' best chance to combat that potential dynasty.

Warriors Are Overthinking It If They Have Doubts About Signing Kevin Durant

Speculation has heated up in recent weeks that Golden State is the frontrunner for Durant's services when he becomes a free agent after the 2015-16 season ends -- so much so that the Warriors are actually debating among themselves whether to add the Thunder free agent and risk breaking up the team chemistry they've already built.

But most analysts would agree that a Warriors roster than includes Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would be nearly impossible to beat in a single game, much less take a seven-game playoff series.

LeBron James' Praise For Gregg Popovich Is An Ominous Sign For Cavs

Unless...

Would LeBron look good in silver and black?

James has a player option with the Cavaliers at the end of the season. The prospect of him leaving his beloved franchise again wouldn't seem logical. Then again, Durant accepting a reduced role to win a ring doesn't seem logical either. But it's a hot topic.

If it happens, don't expect 31-year-old LeBron to wait for the Golden State dynasty to run its course. Curry is the oldest among the current Warriors triumvirate at 28. If the Warriors land the 27-year-old Durant, James probably doesn't want to wait until he's 35 to get another realistic chance to add to his own legacy.

King James' teams already have lost four NBA Finals, and that total could climb quickly if Durant moves to the West Coast. About the only way James could create a level playing field would be to join the Spurs

"I believe he is one of the great basketball minds that we've ever had in this game," James told Cleveland.com about Popovich. "I wish I could be around him every day so I could just pick his brain, what he does, what he thinks."

A San Antonio lineup consisting of LeBron, Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge might be the only thing that could stand in the Warriors' way.

Far-fetched? Maybe. But who would've thought a couple of months ago that Golden State would be considered Durant's preferred destination. And the Cavaliers, as currently constructed, don't figure to beat the Warriors in a potential NBA Finals matchup this year.

How would they compete with the Warriors plus Durant? They wouldn't. But LeBron just might be able to.

In San Antonio.
