Golden State Warriors Eyeing Former Cleveland Cavaliers Forward Anderson Varejao

The Golden State Warriors have the best record in the league but that does not mean the defending champions are not looking to improve, as reports revealed they are interested in acquiring Anderson Varejao.

According to ESPN, the Warriors, who are currently on top of the standings with their 48-5 record, are considering making a run at Varejao once the do-it-all forward becomes a free agent.

Varejao, who was traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Portland Trail Blazers before he was waived, will be free to sign with any team once he clears waivers on Sunday.

Golden State did not make moves before the trade deadline on Thursday but could still tweak their roster after Festus Ezeli went down with a knee injury, which will put him on the sidelines for at least six weeks.

Varejao, who is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds, could fill in the void left by Ezeli and provide a huge lift off the bench for Golden State. When asked about the rumors linking the Warriors to the Brazilian veteran, Golden State coach Steve Kerr declined to reveal their cards.

"I have not been notified of that but it makes perfect sense, right?" Kerr said. "I don't even know, am I allowed to even mention his name? I can get fined by the NBA. I don't even know what the rule is."

Aside from the Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks are also reportedly interested in signing Varejao once he clear waivers.

Meanwhile, Varejao, who played his first 12 seasons in the league in Cleveland, posted a heartfelt message for Cavaliers fans, thanking them for their support during his days with the team.

"Thank you for your support. Thank you for coming out every night whether we were winning or losing. And thank you for giving me the best 12 years of my life," Varejao posted on Facebook. "Home is where the heart is, and my heart will forever be in Cleveland."

Cavaliers superstar Kyrie Irving also paid tribute to Varejao on Friday through an Instagram post.
