Until Jerry Jones declares it dead, the Johnny Manziel-to-Dallas-Cowboys rumor lives on.

The embattled Cleveland Browns quarterback whose release next month is all but guaranteed, still has a chance, albeit a small one, to don a Cowboys uniform in 2016, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Brandon George.

Johnny Manzield Rumored To Be Wondering Whether Chandler Parsons Slept With His Now Ex-Girlfriend

In a chat session earlier this week, the Cowboys beat reporter was asked about the likelihood of Manziel taking up residence in Dallas, on a scale of 1-10.

Surprisingly, the response didn't include the numbers 1 or zero.

Matt Forte Would Be Key Addition To Cowboys

I'll give it a 2 ... The Cowboys have never really had interest in Manziel. Jerry Jones has gushed about him and had interest in him, but even that's wavered. But until Jerry comes out and publicly says he's not interested in Manziel, you have to keep the door cracked despite what anyone else says."

The number may be low, but consider the context. If the Cowboys "never really had interest in Manziel," then that number should've started off as 2 before Manziel's offseason drama. When the words, "domestic violence" were alleged with Manziel in connection of his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley, any level of interest on the part of the Cowboys should've died right there.

Giving defensive end Greg Hardy a second chance should've taught Dallas that.

Before the bulk of Manziel's problems surfaced, Jones hinted that the Cowboys would look at a quarterback already in the league to back up Tony Romo, after the three they used in 2015 made it apparent they were ill-equipped at the backup quarterback position.

So the scale number from that standpoint makes sense, but not if the Cowboys never were exploring the possibility of signing him in the first place.

But the Cowboys' Super Bowl drought now is entering its 21st year, and Jones already has proven that he'll gamble when he took a chance on Hardy.

At the very least, it seems Manziel still has a chance to show Dallas he's straightened out his life before next month when the cuts will start to take place around the league.
