Landon Donovan and his wife, Bianca Kajlich, welcomed their son, Talon Bartell Donovan, to the world on Wednesday. They just didn’t welcome the future of American soccer.

As much as it would seem logical for Talon to follow his father’s footsteps, Landon doesn’t exactly have the “I’m going to groom a soccer legend” vibe. He barely wanted to groom his own legend.

Mind you this is the same guy that took a self-imposed hiatus in 2012-13 to “find himself.”

“I do have an interest in playing for the USMNT again,” Donovan said as a guest at a University of Southern California forum, per The Washington Post. “If given the opportunity, I would.

“Soccer is not a big part of me. I feel like I have so much more to give post soccer. That’s how I want to be remembered”

Donovan did return to play for club and country, but his future was already decided. He lasted two more seasons before retiring with a sixth MLS Cup in 2014.

That life was barely good enough for him. Now responsible for another human life, don’t expect him to heap the same pressure the rest of American soccer is.

To be fair, at least Talon was born. Sydney Leroux’s kid doesn’t even have a sex yet and it has the same pressure being heaped on it.
