Today at 4:00 p.m. the Los Angeles Dodgers will attempt to stave off elimination on their home field in the National League Championship Series at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals on TBS. Live stream the game here; Dodgers fans can listen to the game on 570 Fox Sports LA, while Cardinals fans can hear all the action on 1120 KMOX.
Last night's win was sweet for St. Louis, considering the barking that's gone on over Los Angeles' propensity to celebrate out in the open when good things happen. Cardinals veteran outfielder Matt Holliday is preaching caution, however, and wants the team to stay focused on the task at hand.
"We can't get ahead of ourselves," Holliday said.
Indeed, the Dodgers will have a former Cy Young winner in Zack Greinke on the mound today, who dropped his Game 1 start and will be looking for payback.
Greinke pitched well in the Game 1 loss, but is mindful of the slow series St. Louis has had offensively. "If you make really good pitches it's not much the offense can do," Greinke said, "but they haven't had many like lucky hits so they're probably due for a couple like flairs and groundballs that just no one can get to."
Last night, Cards manager Mike Matheny was pleased with the Redbirds' bats.
"Hopefully, we can throw some offense together like we were (Tuesday) a little bit and keep some positive thoughts going," Matheny said. "When we start talking about where the series is, I think it's a distraction. What we've got to do is play a game."
Joe Kelly is back on the hill for the Cardinals, and he likely won't have to deal with shortstop Hanley Ramirez, whose fractured rib worsened during last night's loss, according to Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly.
With or without Ramirez, Kelly expects a dogfight. "Obviously they know what I've got, and I know what they've got," Kelly said. "It's just going to be about executing pitches, ultimately."
