Vince Young To Houston Texans? Former Longhorn Wants To Play For Struggling Hometown Team [VIDEO]

Free agent quarterback and Houston native Vince Young took to Twitter on Sunday to voice just how much he'd be interested in playing for the Texans.

With the quarterback combination of Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates having thrown an interception returned for a touchdown in the team's last six games, Houston might be in the market for an alternative sooner rather than later.

Young, who last played in a NFL regular season game in 2011, isn't about to waste any more time in stating his case. NFL.com reports he recently told reporters "I would like to pop in on those guys and see how that goes. We're working on it."

Young remains a legend in the Houston area after leading the University of Texas to the 2006 national championship and becoming the No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was named NFL Offensive Rookie Of the Year in his first season with Tennessee and later also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.

Competing for a job with Green bay this season as Aaron Rodger's backup, Young survived until the final rounds of cuts. Now all his focus seems zoomed in on the Texans.

He's now advocating for a chance to restart his career with the hometown Texans saying his personal connections would provide added motivation to take the team all the way.

"I would literally be crying on my first interview if that happens," said Young said. "People will be like, 'Why are you crying?' Because that would be a dream come true to play at home in front of my family and friends in the city I grew up in. They've been watching me since high school. I definitely wouldn't let them down. I'd put my blood, sweat and tears into getting that Super Bowl. That's something I would love to do, definitely for my hometown."

After advancing to the AFC Divisional Playoff game last season, the Texans have struggled mightily this season and matters only became worse last game when Schaub suffered an ankle injury that could cause him to miss significant time.

"I'm a veteran. I've been in this league," he said. "I learned the Green Bay offense fast, coming in on short notice. It's not really a major change. Everybody runs the same things, so it's about how fast you can pick up the terminology. ... I just feel like I can pick it up and run plays I'm comfortable with that I had success with in the past and then start picking up more each day and each week. I really feel like that wouldn't be a problem.
