John Calipari knows a thing or two about developing NBA talent. His current crop of players at Kentucky would be wise to listen.

In a creative effort to motivate his team, Calipari purchased a lottery ticket at a Lexington gas station over the weekend. No, it wasn't to help fatten his pockets any more than they already are. It was to be used as a motivational tool instead.

"At one point he pulled out a Powerball ticket and held it up and said to his guys, 'You know how many people are going out right now to buy one of these hoping to win $1.5 billion and change their lives and the odds are they aren't going to win? Every single one of you already have a ticket,'" Shannon Spake reported from the sidelines of Kentucky's 80-74 win over Mississippi State on Tuesday, per Kentucky Sports Radio.

"'That ticket is your skill, your potential. And you have better odds of winning with those than Powerball. If you don't try, if you don't fight, if you don't live up to your potential, it's just a ticket in your back pocket. You're never cashing it in.'"

Four players performed well enough under Calipari to cash in theirs at the 2015 NBA Draft: Karl-Anthony Towns (No. 1), Willie Cauley-Stein (No. 6), and Trey Lyles (No. 12).

Thirteen others -- most notably Derrick Rose in 2008 -- preceded them.

With three losses already this season, it's time the 2015-16 class follows suit.
