Tonight at 8:07, the two teams left standing in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, will face off in Game 1 of the NLCS to determine the winner of the NL pennant. Watch the NLCS on TBS or live stream the action here; Dodgers fans can catch the radio broadcast on 570 Fox Sports LA, while Cardinals fans can tune in to KMOX 1120.
The Dodgers and Cardinals both used their aces to close out their NLDS opponents, so Game 1 of the NLCS will feature Zack Greinke of the Dodgers against Joe Kelly of the Cardinals.
The Dodgers haven't played in a few days, but Greinke doesn't think rust will play any factor as this series begins. "Once we won it, it was just kind of make the best adjustments possible," Greinke said. "I mean, there's not much you can really do."
Kelly agreed, although his Redbirds barely had any time to rest and enjoy their victory. "You could be laid off for eight days and come out and play absolutely the best baseball you've ever done," Kelly said. "You could come out and play the next day and not have a good game. This is all about execution."
Still, it wasn't 100 percent all business in St Louis after winning a hard-fought NLDS against the scrappy Pirates. Obviously, it was a great celebration and a lot of fun," said reliever John Axford. "The clubhouse guys, I don't know if they even went home."
The Dodgers have the star power and the payroll advantages over St. Louis, making Los Angeles the favorites. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admitted those factors increase the pressure on his club to win.
"I think the payroll gets thrown out there in general, and then it becomes an expectation," Mattingly said. "You've got these high-profile guys, you've got big names, guys making big money, you're supposed to win."
