A ninth win is on the line when Boise State (8-4) meets Northern Illinois (8-5) in the 2015 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday.
Losers of two of their last three games and down a starting QB -- Ryan Finley was forced to skip the season after breaking his ankle in Sept. -- the Broncos hope Wednesday's game will be a positive punctuation to a disappointing season. Dreams of becoming the non-Power 5 team to finish the season undefeated and potentially make a playoff game were quickly dashed with a final-second loss to BYU in Week 2.
Northern Illinois finds itself in familiar territory.
The Huskies played for the MAC crown, but were unable to handle Bowling Green due to insurmountable injuries. They too will be in search of a victory and some semblance of health when the final whistle blows.
