Akron (7-5) makes its return to the college football bowl season on Tuesday, taking on Utah State (6-6) in the Idaho Potato Bowl.
Since joining the MAC in 1992, the Zips have competed in just one bowl game -- a 38-31 loss to Memphis in the 2005 Motor City Bowl. Nine seasons of sub-500 football followed. Head coach Terry Bowden put that miserable streak to an end in 2015.
The same cannot be said for Utah State.
This will be the Aggies' fifth consecutive bowl game. They are 4-0 in bowl games since 2011, claiming victories in the Idaho Potato Bowl (twice), Poinsettia Bowl (2013) and New Mexico Bowl (2014).
