A DII Football champion will be crowned on Saturday when Northwest Missouri State (14-0) battles Shepherd (13-0) at Sporting Park.
For the Bearcats, this is far from unfamiliar territory. This is the program's fifth trip to the DII final, with the last title coming in 2013. Success in 2015 has helped wipe away the nasty taste of an first-round exit in 2014.
For Shepherd fullback Jon Hammer, on the other hand, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"When I first saw the stadium [Sporting Park] when we walked through those doors, the first words out of my mouth were 'wow, this is awesome,'" Hammer said, per NCAA. "It is a neat opportunity. Me, being a senior, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"For some of the other guys, hopefully it is not a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. I'm going to make the most out of the experience."
