Lance Armstrong was disgraced by his doping scandal, but he still believes he would have been successful without performance-enhancing drugs.

The former cyclist believes that even if he wasn't doping, he would have had just as much success as he had in his career. Armstrong won the Tour de France seven straight years from 1999-2005, but the wins were taken away from him amid the scandal. Despite the black cloud that hovers over him as a result of cheating, Armstrong thinks man-to-man, he still would have won.

"Same result," Armstrong said on the 'Joe Rogan Experience.' "It is my belief that the results would be the same. It doesn't matter if the overall time is slower, what matters is if you were five minutes ahead of the next guy. That's what matters. That's my belief, but there are others who don't hold that belief. There are others who say no. Doping affects other individuals differently."

When Rogan brought up that others weren't doping correctly and joked that they "weren't doing their job correctly," Armstrong admitted the situation is dicey.

"It gets complicated," Armstrong said. "We could talk forever and people would argue forever about that."

Rogan then asked about the seven straight Tour de France wins being wiped out, which the 44-year-old Texas native said was "a problem."

"That's a problem," Armstrong said. "[The record book] is empty. ... All I will say is that I don't think it's fair for the sport to leave those empty. I think that's crazy."

Though he believes he "won the races," and that he would have done the same without the performance-enhancing drugs, Armstrong also admitted in the interview that he felt he needed to dope in order to stay competitive because everyone else in the sport was doing it.
