Miguel Cotto, a four-time world champion and Puerto Rican boxing legend, returns to the ring on Saturday, October 5, versus dangerous Delvin Rodriguez of the Dominican Republc at the New Amway Center in Orlando, Florida needing a win to resurrect a career that many think is headed to retirement.

Cotto and Rodriguez will fight in a 12-round super welterweight fight with the former eyeing to bounce back from a stunning loss to Austin Trout last December 2012 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he had an unblemished six win record prior to the loss.

For this fight, Cotto trained with Freddie Roach, the trainer of Manny Pacquiao whom he fought in a memorable fight in 2009. With a record of 37 wins and four losses, 30 of them via knockouts, Cotto was looking for someone to help him get back to a winning record. Curiously, Roach has been on a slump as well after two setbacks by Pacquiao as well as former wards Amir Khan and Julio Cezar Chavez, Jr.

If Cotto can beat Rodriguez, he figures to earn another shot at a world championship. According to Washington Times, it could be against reigning middleweight champion Sergio Martinez as early as May next year. Or it could also be against Mexican Canelo Alvarez that could set up a classic Mexico versus Puerto Rico battle between two proud boxing havens. But as Washington Times predicts, another loss for Cotto could mean the end of a legendary boxing career.
