The Big 12 believes it finally has the solution to its College Football Playoff problem ... except all it did was boost Notre Dame's future prospects.

Commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced Tuesday that the Big 12 will require its members to schedule at least one game from another Power 5 conference or Notre Dame every year, per ESPN.

Notre Dame Still Deserves To Be In College Football Playoff

"Schedule strength is a key component in [College Football Playoff] selection committee deliberations," Bowlsby said in a statement. "This move will strengthen the résumés for all Big 12 teams.

"Coupled with the nine-game full round-robin conference schedule our teams play, it will not only benefit the teams at the top of our standings each season, but will impact the overall strength of the conference."

It'll also impact Notre Dame's overall strength in the process.

The Fighting Irish have already been proactive in their efforts, scheduling Wake Forest and Georgia Tech in 2015. Duke, Miami and Virginia Tech will be the next crop of foes for 2016.

It was a strategy that proved to be effective. Despite a 24-22 loss to Clemson, Notre Dame was favored by the selection committee in Weeks 10 and 11. A season-ending loss to Stanford just proved to be insurmountable.

Had the result gone their way, the selection committee would've had a hard time turning away an 11-1 Irish team whose only loss came to Clemson in a hurricane.

With strength of schedule such a massive part of the committee's consideration, the Big 12's latest decision will only help strengthen Notre Dame's case in future seasons.
