Tyson Fury is suddenly one of the biggest names in boxing after lifting four heavyweight title belts off Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday, who hadn’t lost in more than 11 years. The 27-year-old was brash throughout the promotion and during the fight, and now an electric opportunity awaits him.

Fury has been called out by American heavyweight star Deontay Wilder, the WBC champ. Wilder, who has long been rumored to be close to a fight with Fury, officially made it known he has the Irish gypsy in his sights.

“I’ve got to fight someone in January and after that fight I would love to have a unification bout – and guess what, I wouldn’t mind coming to the UK for that one. No matter where it might be, I want to be the undisputed champion of the world,” Wilder told BBC Radio.

The matchup would pit two undefeated champions against one another; Fury improved to 25-0 with 18 knockouts by beating Klitschko, while Wilder’s record moved to 35-0 with 34 knockouts when he beat Johann Duhaupas by TKO in September. Wilder won the WBC belt in January by beating Bermane Stiverne, and has already defended the title twice in 2015.

“We haven’t had an undisputed champion in I can’t remember how long and I want to be the first name to bring the belts back together and heavyweight boxing back to its full potential,” Wilder said.

Making a Wilder fight might not be so easy, a fact which will surprise zero boxing fans. First, Klitschko does have a rematch clause in his contract, although at 39 years old he may decide to retire. Second, Fury didn’t seem eager to give Wilder a chance, instead mocking his boxing experience.

"Why do we need to mention Deontay Wilder? Let's laugh at his name, shall we?” Fury said to BBC.

"Wladimir Klitschko was the number one in the division. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means. So why would I be bothered about a novice like Wilder? He's a basketball player who took up boxing a couple of years ago. I'm a true natural fighter."

Hopefully Fury puts his hubris aside and fights Wilder sooner rather than later. Wilder remains mostly untested, but fights far more aggressively than Klitschko, and has one of the top knockout rates in the sport (97 percent).
