Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz’s season has ended before it ever began. The snake bitten receiver announced today that he needs season-ending surgery on his calf, which he injured during training camp and then aggravated just days before he was expected to return in Week 4.
Cruz tore his patellar tendon in Week 6 of the 2014 season, and hasn’t seen the field since. Cruz put out a video online detailing his decision to have the operation.
Victor Cruz Dumped His Fiancee After Airing Him Out For Having Groupies
"This hurts, mainly because I worked so hard to come back from my patellar tendon surgery," Cruz said in There are certain things that happen to your body that you just can't explain.” In the video, he asked Giants fans to remain patient with him.
"I hope you guys don't lose faith in me, because I haven't lost faith in myself."
Odell Beckham Jr. Has A Unique Way Of Getting Better
The news is hard for Giants fans to hear, since Cruz was expected to be a strong complement to their new star, Odell Beckham Jr. The news is also devastating to fantasy football owners who have hung on to Cruz in the hopes that he’d help them in their late-season pushes for playoff berths. There is one winner in this situation though, and it is not presumed No. 2 receiver Rueben Randle.
Offseason acquisition Dwayne Harris will see steady targets from Eli Manning for the rest of the year, and be a viable option in fantasy as a WR3 or FLEX play. Harris has seen seven or more targets in two of the Giants’ last three games, and against New England he racked up 87 yards and a touchdown.
Harris has seen just 15 fewer targets than Randle, despite starting three games to Randle’s 10. He’s also caught three of his four touchdowns in the last three weeks, showing that Manning is increasingly relying on him. Beckham monopolizes targets like few wide receivers in the entire league, and when Manning can’t get it to him, his eyes tend to go immediately toward the slot receiver safety valve. That’s where Harris will live for the rest of the season, so pick him up on the cheap.
