Survivor pools are fun, and they seem easy, but it’s actually very hard to last longer than a few weeks. For those who have never done a survivor pool, the rules are simple. Each week you pick one team to win outright -- usually, survivor pools do not use spreads. Once you’ve picked that team, they’re unavailable to you for the rest of the season.

These are three picks that will keep you alive.

The Sure Thing: PACKERS over Lions

Chances are if you’ve made it this far, you have already used the Packers at some point. That’s why we pick three! If you haven’t, however, now’s the time. Green Bay is coming off back-to-back losses, but don’t panic. Both teams that beat them were undefeated at the time, and boast tremendous defenses. That’s not a ringing endorsement of Green Bay’s offense, but its safe to say the Lions don’t possess the necessary defense.

Aaron Rodgers’ electric second half last week should strike fear in the hearts of all Lions fans. Rodgers is set to erupt now that he’s back home against one of the league’s worst defenses. WR Davante Adams finally looked healthy last week as well, and he could help alleviate Rodgers’ problems with finding open pass-catchers.

The Next Best Thing: Panthers over TITANS

While this game, with its suspiciously low 4.5-point spread, looks like a trap, Carolina should be safe. The Titans stunned the Saints behind four Marcus Mariota touchdowns, but that won’t happen vs. the Panthers defense. Moreover, the Panthers will not allow Tennessee’s offense to even be on the field that long. Carolina leads the league in rushing, while Tennessee is ranked 30th against the run.

Cam Newton and Jonathan Stewart are set up for huge fantasy output, while Mariota could be in for a long day. Don’t bet on the lowly teams coming off an emotionally-charged win. Last week used up a lot of their energy. Also, Tennessee hasn’t gotten a boost at home in 2015; both of their wins are on the road, while they dropped all four games of a homestand.

If You Want To Get Cute: EAGLES over Dolphins

Around this time of year the cute picks tend to be all that’s left. Chip Kelly’s offense still looks disjointed as hell, but it’s the defense that you’d be placing faith in. The Eagles’ D is ranked third in the NFL per FootballOutsiders.com, while Miami’s offense ranks just 18th.

The Fins’ offense has picked up now that they’re leaning on RB Lamar Miller more, but Philly is among the top-7 in the NFL vs. the run, and top-3 at snuffing out backs in the passing game. The Eagles’ have the third-best pass defense in the league, and Miami is average or worse in every facet of defense. In short, it’s a bad matchup, and a good time to trust a volatile team.
