Not everyone is an Eagles fan -- not everyone is willing to cheer Michael Irvin as he lays on the turf motionless, his NFL career holding onto its last breath -- but you don’t have to be an Eagles fan to warrant criticism.

David Price Proves He's Not Worth New York's Money

Especially if you live in New York.

Desperate to turn his life around, CC Sabathia left the Yankees the night before the AL Wild Card elimination game against the Astros.

Yankees Target Jeff Samardzija This Offseason

His decision didn’t go over well with the fanbase.

Sabathia -- though acknowledging the passion from the fans -- shed light on the bigger picture.

“I understand where, you know, fans would be upset and people would not understand,” he said, per Yahoo Sports. “If it was my knee or if it was anything else, then people wouldn't have a problem with it.

“You know, it being alcoholism, it was tough for people to swallow, but it's the same thing,”

And therein lies the problem. Often times, fans fail to remember these are still human beings they’re idolizing.

Somehow -- because he’s earning $23.25 million a year -- Sabathia isn’t allowed to suffer the same alcoholic fate plaguing 18.6 million adults, per NIAAA. It’s almost as if he was better off tearing his ACL in order to satisfy your fandom. Only in sports is bettering your life held against you.

Fortunately for Yankees fans, Sabathia completed his rehab and is ready for next season.

You can go back to pretending you care about his well being now that he's of use to you again.
