Connor McDavid was the first overall pick in June's NHL Entry Draft and now in his first month in the league the Oilers young star has been named Rookie of the Month.

McDavid is tied for the league lead in goals amongst rookies with five and leads all first year players with 12 points. The 18-year-old is also second on the Oilers in points, just one shy of Taylor Hall's team leading 13.

After his first four games McDavid had just one goal and no assist. He broke out in his fifth game however, netting two goals and adding an assist for a three point night. Thanks to that performance, McDavid was able to go on a point scoring streak that lasted seven games.

If McDavid hopes for a repeat performance in the month of November, the center will have to edge out fellow rookie, 20-year-old Max Domi. Domi, son of former NHL tough guy Tie Domi, has proven himself to be a much different player than his father was.

Domi is just one point shy of tying McDavid for the rookie points lead and his plus/minus rating of +3 is substantially more impressive than McDavid's -3. Despite getting beat out this month, it's safe to say that both McDavid and Domi will be duking it out all season to earn the title of the NHL's best rookie.
