A torn achilles during Sunday's win over the Chargers has brought Steve Smith's final NFL season to an abrupt and unceremonious ending.

Smith, who is known for his time with the Panthers, had announced prior to this season that his 2015 campaign with the Ravens would be his last. Smith was in the midst of a Pro Bowl season, as he was eighth in the NFL in receiving yards entering Week 8.

Don't Count On Peyton Manning To Turn It Around

Despite it's unfortunate ending, Smith had a spectacular career that saw him get named to five Pro Bowls. Ravens coach John Harbaugh however believes that their could still be more from Smith.

"I have a feeling Steve Smith will be back," the coach said on the NFL website. "I love him, respect him, admire him. I told him that. That's the kind of man he is and he'll be back."

Pats Have Found Their Vereen Replacement

Whether or not Smith decides to postpone his retirement for the 2016 season is a discussion for later. Right now the Ravens need to figure out just who might be catching passes from quarterback Joe Flacco.

For both Ravens fans and fantasy owners, the likely answer for Smith's replacement is Kamar Aiken. Aiken saw half of Flacco's targets following Smith's injury and has had some solid games this season, grabbing at least four receptions in half of his games.
