Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose wants to join the U.S. Team that will participate in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain, possibly making it even harder for the coaching staff led by coach Mike Krzyzewski to decide who among a bumper crop of guards to choose for the squad.

The comebacking Rose made the pronouncement to ABS-CBNNews.com during a promotional tour in the Philippines for Adidas which he promotes. "If they select me on the team, it will be an honor," Rose was quoted as saying. "I definitely will be on the team if [coach Mike Krzyzewski] wants me

Rose was part of the US team that captured the gold medal at the 2010 World Championships in Turkey. He was unable to join the US team that dominated the basketball competition at the 2012 London Olympics after undergoing ACL surgery on his left knee. The same procedure kept him out for the entire 2012-13 NBA season.

Rose's announcement will surely heat up the competition among the guards who are competing for a slot in the 12-man team. Although Clippers superstar Chris Paul has hinted that he's done with international competition and thus will likely leave behind the starting point guard chores, the team is still deep at the position. Aside from Rose, other possible candidates for the role are Cavaliers All-Star Kyrie Irving as well as 2013 summer minicamp participants Mike Conley, Ty Lawson, John Wall, Jrue Holiday and reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard. Rose, however, has an inside track having been part of the previous US teams. In the 2010 World Championships, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds.
