Slava Voynov had established himself as a top member of the Kings, helping lead their defense to two Stanley Cup titles. But after an arrest last October, the once promising King is out of the NHL.

With last year's arrest, a domestic violence charge, Voynov was suspended for the remaining 76 games of the 2014-2015 season. After signing his NHL retirment papers, Voynov forfeited the remaining four years of his contract, leaving behind an average cap hit of $4.16 million per season.

Voynov will be joining SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL, which has been a thorn in the side of the NHL for years. Interestingly enough, Voynov will be playing alongside another famous NHL player, Ilya Kovalchuk.

While it may seem like Voynov left a lot of money on the table by leaving the NHL, it's nothing compared to what Kovalchuk gave up. The former NHL All-Star left behind $77 million to leave for the KHL.

The KHL poaching NHL talent is nothing new, the 400-goal scorer Kovalchuk is one of many to bolt to Russia. Voynov's case is a bit different though, because if not for the arrest, he more than likely would still be skating with the Kings. He gave up that privilege, and will now have his NHL career end by poor life decisions.
