Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans didn’t exactly have an emphatic return after a two-year layoff but such hasn’t stopped him from moving forward and getting a new opponent.

Evans lost to Ryan Bader via unanimous decision, disheartening but nevertheless not the end of the world. And he is doing just that now as he tries to regain the old form that once made him a champion for the said division.

The question however is who he would eventually end up facing? The 36-year-old doesn’t seem to have a lot of suitors lately so he has decided to pick one out for himself.

And his pick was Alexander Gustaffson who ironically suffered a loss as well against champion Daniel Cormier via split decision.

The camp of Gustaffson sees no problem with setting up a fight with Evans though it seems that they want to address some undisclosed issues first. That includes identifying key problems on why the Swede has been falling short of snagging the light heavyweight championship for two times already.

Regardless, Gustaffson did put on a good show. Cormier was taken to the limit and for that the champ even acknowledged Gustaffson.

"Thank you, Alexander Gustafsson. You made me a better man and a better fighter tonight. I will forever be indebted to you for your performance,” says Cormier after their fight earlier this month at UFC 192.

Apparently Gustaffson didn’t do too bad at all. He may have fallen short but the thing is that he is a dangerous adversary. Is Evans willing to put it all on the line against him?

Right now this is Evans is leaning on but the final verdict will come from the UFC. The fight does make sense unless of course the UFC feels that both fighters should face different foes.
