Success on Draft Kings each week involves finding several cheap players to perform like stars. We’ll make it easy for you, and identify one extremely affordable player at each position you can confidently plug into your lineup.
Quarterback: Matt Cassel, Cowboys ($5,000)
It’s difficult to find any starting quarterback at this kind of price, and Cassel is a nice play. He’s up against a soft Giants’ pass rush, and he’s behind a talented offensive line that’s upgrading at guard with rookie La’el Collins. They’ve made changes to the running game too, so if Christine Michael is as good as expected, it will open up play-action for Cassel. Dez Bryant won’t play, but he still has Jason Witten and Terrance Williams, as well as Darren McFadden out of the backfield.
Running Back: Dexter McCluster, Titans ($3,200)
Playing McCluster allows you to pick up an absolute stud at another position, and this is definitely a nice spot to start him. The Titans’ other two RBs, Bishop Sankey and Antonio Andrews, have both flopped in their opportunities to be lead dog. McCluster won’t get that chance because of his size, but he could see more touches than ever.
McCluster did find the end zone last week, and Atlanta has not been great vs. running backs that can catch the rock according to FootballOutsiders.com.
Joseph Randle's Fantasy Stock Is About To Plummet
Wide Receiver: Stefon Diggs, Vikings ($4,200)
Diggs has been making plays lately, and he’ll be up against a Lions defense that has problems with everyone in the passing game. The knock is that Teddy Bridgewater has been utterly incompetent in a strictly fantasy sense, but that hasn’t stopped Diggs from being the one guy Bridgewater’s throwing to in the last two weeks.
Tight End: Coby Fleener, Colts ($3,000)
Looking for an unorthodox stack? How about stud QB Andrew Luck and his cheap tight end Coby Fleener? Fleener is extremely inconsistent, but the Saints are the worst defense in the NFL vs. tight ends. Dwayne Allen may be the one to benefit from that, but Fleener has more upside for bigger plays. Think of him as a homeless man’s Tyler Eifert.
