Darryl Strawberry knows what it's like to be gripped by addiction, but he also believes that Khloe Kardashian is making the right call by calling off her divorce with Lamar Odom.

The former MLB great grappled with drug addiction throughout his career, but was able to fight off his demons and now runs his own rehabilitation center for struggling addicts. When he heard the news that Kardashian decided to try and save her marriage to Odom after his latest drug scare almost took his life, Strawberry knew it was the right thing to do.

Lamar & Khloe's Second Chance At Marriage Could Be Life Saving

"Lamar stands a much better chance with her by his side," Strawberry said, according to TMZ. "When you stand and confront your problems as man and wife, it makes you stronger. It did for me. Most people aren't going to care, so many people walk away. But if they face all these things together I hope that with the help of God he can get his life back in order."

Odom was in a coma and nearly died due to taking cocaine and an "herbal Viagra" supplement at the Love Ranch, a brothel in Crystal, Nevada. The former NBA star was originally given a 50-50 chance of living, but he improved as the days went on.

Kardashian was by Odom's side in the hospital and has vowed to stay with him through his lengthy rehabilitation.

It was then revealed that the two signed off to have the divorce papers they filed discarded, effectively keeping them married and ending the reality star's relationship with Hawks star James Harden. Kardashian had filed for divorce in 2013, but sat on the papers before deciding to press it forward in the summer when Odom refused to go to rehab.

Now, after he husband suffered a near-death experience, the severity of his problems have come to light and the couple hopes to stay together while he kicks his addictions. Strawberry was all too familiar with being lost in the throes of addiction, but he knows that Odom having a positive, strong influence by his side will help him get through it.

The four-time World Series champion met his current wife, Tracy, at a Narcotics Anonymous convention in 2003 and the two co-authored the book "The Imperfect Marriage," a perfect description of Kardashian and Odom's saga.

The eight-time All-Star also offered them some encouragement.

"If they need anything," he said, "we're here with prayers and support"
