There could be a reason the Dodgers have remained eerily silent on the fate of manager Don Mattingly. They may be trying to shop him around.

The Marlins have an interest in the Dodgers manager, putting the Los Angeles franchise in a situation to find out his trade value, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly's Fate Could Be Tied To Zack Greinke

"Based on his track record, [Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew] Friedman might well be exploring what kind of market might exist for Mattingly," The Times reported. "The choices need not be limited to 'keep him' or 'fire him.'

Mattingly has been the scapegoat for the Dodgers' exit from the NLDS, losing to the red-hot Mets in five games. Despite the highest payroll in baseball the last three years, Los Angeles has failed to reach the World Series under Mattingly's watch

Team management wants to explore every opportunity to make the team better.

"The Dodgers could consider trading Mattingly to the Marlins, although precedent suggests that the Dodgers might not get a significant player in return," The Times added. "In fact, the Marlins have gone this route before, trading two minor leaguers to the White Sox for manager Ozzie Guillen in 2011. The two minor leaguers played a total of two games for the White Sox."

The Marlins do have a competitive balance pick, which The Times says is the only type of pick allowed to be traded, with an estimated slot value of $1.5 million. Mattingly's salary for 2016 is estimated to be $1.5 million to $2 million.
