The Cubs -- predictably -- are down 3-0 to the Mets in the NLCS and on the brink of elimination. Hoping to salvage its season, the team invited a familiar face for Game 4 -- Henry Rowengartner.

Well, almost.

Cubs Continue To Prove How Dumb Baseball Superstition Is

Thomas Ian Nicholas, the actor who played the pre-pubescent pitcher that lifted the Cubs to a World Series championship in the 1993 film "Rookie of the Year," will be in attendance Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.

Unlike previous trips, however, he'll be in attendance wearing the same jersey that brought him "luck" in 1993.

Jake Arrieta: Horrible NLCS Pitcher, Worse Father

"I've never done that," he said in regard to wearing a Rowengartner jersey to Wrigley Field, per ESPN.

"There are a lot of superstitions in baseball, so I'm just hoping that throwing on the Rowengartner jersey is the lucky rabbit's foot that we need in this series. Hopefully this is the turnaround."

What, was Chet Steadman not available to pitch Game 4? Because the Cubs have a better chance of winning relying on that kind of "luck" than bringing the kid from American Pie to the stadium.

And what happened Kyle Schwarber's NLCS-clinching HR-ball sitting on top of the video scoreboard? Has the "luck" on that reached it's expiration date already?

Between the Billy Goats, HR balls and washed-up actors, the Cubs are running out of voodoo to rectify 107 years of ineptitude. Instead of asking a fictional character for help, find out what's preventing the entire lineup from batting below .275 this NLCS. Find a starting pitcher whose ERA is lower than 4.50 before you turn to Hollywood for your next gimmick.

Maybe then you won't need a script to enjoy success.
