Ray Rice is putting himself on sale. The NFL approves but isn't promoting the sale.

The embattled former Ravens running back is seeking an opportunity to return to the NFL at a minimum contract, CBS Sports reported.

Chiefs' Past Issues With Jovan Belcher Kill Any Hopes Of Ray Rice Signing

Rice has been diligent in his dedication to counseling and outreach to at-risk kids and educating others on domestic violence, the report added, so much so that the NFL would lend its full support for Rice to any team willing to bring him in for a workout.

"While Rice has yet to get an invitation to even work out for an NFL team, sources said he retains strong support within the NFL's football operations department for a second chance, and if given the opportunity, (Vice President) of football operations Troy Vincent would indicate as much to an interested team.

Jerry Jones Says Cowboys Signed Greg Hardy To Protect Him From Engaging In More Violence

"Vincent would not be a in a position to call clubs on Rice's behalf, but the league has been impressed with how Rice has conducted himself as well as his dedication to counseling and outreach and would stand behind him if given an opportunity to play in the NFL again, sources said. The NFL has closely monitored Rice and has remained in regular contact with him, and he has impressed league brass with how he has responded to what's been asked of him in the aftermath of striking his then-fiancée in a casino elevator."

After the flippant remarks by Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy upon his return from a four-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence incident, not to mention the comments from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the NFL should encourage someone to become Rice's advocate.

A Rice return would give the NFL the opportunity to showcase how Rice has attempted to rehabilitate himself and bring a possible positive outcome for the poster child of domestic violence.

Any support groups for victims of domestic violence that would object to a Rice return would have to ask themselves whether they'd rather have Rice and his rehabilitation as an influence inside a team locker room or Hardy, who has shown no public remorse for his issues.
