Colin Kaepernick can’t throw the ball accurately, so the 49ers might as well just let him run with it. At least, that’s what Hall of Famer Joe Montana thinks.
Lack Of Urgency The Reason Kaepernick Won't Be Great
"I would tell him to get to the coaches and say, 'Look, I'm here because this is what I did in college, and my first year I was here you let me do it [scramble]. Now because I'm making a lot more money, you're trying to keep me in the pocket, you're trying to make me do things,'" Montana suggested, per ESPN.
“Let him do it. He's big. Tell him just protect yourself, but you have to get him back to doing the things he's comfortable with doing."
A four-time Super Bowl Champion, Montana knows a thing or two about the position.
49ers praise Kaepernick for arm strength, but struggles with deep passes as much as Alex Smith does.

In four full season with the 49ers, Kaepernick never proved to be accurate enough to throw from the pocket. Though he’s progressed each year, his career-high completion percentage is an average 62.9.
His best season -- 2013 -- Kaepernick completed just 58.4 percent of his passes. He just managed to do damage with his legs, rushing for 524 yards and four TDs.
It’s no coincidence the 49ers went 12-4 that season. With his new role, it’s no coincidence they’re staring down the barrel of a 1-5 season on Sunday.
Kaepernick was paid $126 million for what he was, not what you want him to be.
