The scheduled clash between Kell Brook and Diego Chaves for the IBF World Welterweight title for Oct. 24 has been temporarily shelved after the champion reportedly incurred a rib injury at training.

Brook was looking forward to his third title defense, but the untimely rib injury he sustained during a sparring session forced him to be taken to the hospital to undergo tests last Thursday.

The fight was originally set for next Saturday at Sheffield, but a disappointed promoter Eddie Hearn says that Brook was simply not in ample condition to face off against Chaves.

Hearn however says that he will try to reschedule the fight before 2015 ends, probably somewhere near Christmas. He will announce by Monday how tickets will be refunded.

With the Brook vs. Chaves card scrapped, focus will now be on the WBA interim world middleweight clash involving Chris Eubank Jr. and American Tony Jeter. Another bout to look forward to that night is the one between Doncaster's Gavin McDonnell who will defend his European bantamweight title against Jeremy Parodi.

Brook’s name was in the boxing headlines recently, mentioned as one of Amir Khan’s possible opponents. His name cropped up with Khan alleged that Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao and company were purposely stalling contract talks.

Per Khan, he believes that the Pacquiao camp was more interested in a clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2016, something that was immediately shot down by Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum who says that Floyd Jr. is retired and the he and Khan’s reps are still doing the numbers for the possible farewell tiff of the senate-bound PacMan.
