The Steelers may have to go through the 2015 season one man down, as center Maurkice Pouncey reportedly underwent second surgery for his ankle which is believed to be infected.

Surgeons had to perform the second surgery to take out the metal plate they had inserted and clean up the infection, according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pouncey underwent surgery for a broken ankle last August immediately after breaking his left fibula during a preseason game against the Packers.

He was first placed on the injured reserve-designated to return. Had it not for the second surgery, Pouncey could have returned to practice by next week and possibly play on November 8.

With Pouncey now technically out for the coming season, it marks the second year he has been sidelined for an entire season. Back in 2013, Pouncey was unable to complete the season when he suffered an ACL tear right in the season opener.

Cody Wallace has been tasked to step up for Pouncey, someone who is expected to use his experience to make up for the Pouncey’s absence.

Right now, things have so far been looking well for the Steelers despite key players missing. That includes Big Ben Roethlisberger has been sidelined with a sprained MCL.
