The Thunder could be home for Dion Waiters for quite a while if he and OKC management end up with an amicable settlement soon.

Waiters, acquired by the Thunder last January in a three-team trade that involved the Cavs and Knicks, is seen as someone who could contribute efficiently as the Thunder try to rebound after being bumped off from the NBA playoffs last season.

Waiters has yet to fully explode, though he is more capable. He showed his prowess when he was still in Cleveland. His production and role severely diminished however when the Cavs got back LeBron James last year.

Waiters and the Thunder have been talking for weeks now and are apparently trying to strike up something before the Nov. 2 deadline.

Should both sides fail to come to a possible contract extension, Waiters will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016 when salary caps are expected to spike.

With a full off season to work with under new Thunder head coach Billy Donovan plus the return of Kevin Durant, Waiters could be a key player this coming season. By this time, he is expected to be more familiar and given a properly defined role heading into the 2015-16 NBA season.

The Thunder stand to benefit if Waiters can shine the way he did back in 2013-14 with the Cavs, having proven he can score and do the little things when called upon.
