Tonight, at 8 p.m. ET, the United States and Mexico will do battle in a 2014 World Cup Qualifier from Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The match can be live streamed here.
The U.S. and Mexico each dropped matches Friday, setting up for a crucial contest tonight. The U.S. lost its match Friday at Costa Rica while Mexico took a tough defeat at home against Honduras. The Americans come into the match in a bit better shape than Mexico despite dropping the match on Friday, as the U.S. is just four points away from qualifying for next summer's World Cup from Brazil which runst from June 12th through July 13th of 2014.
The U.S. comes into this game missing some key players due to injury and suspension. Matt Besler (one assist in 30 starts), Geoff Cameron (one goal and one assist in seven starts) and Jozy Altidore (eight goals and three assists in nine starts) are all slated to miss the match due to receiving too many yellow cards, and Michael Bradley (0 goals, 2 assists in 8 starts) will remain sidelined with a badly sprained ankle.
USA head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called upon Clarence Goodson, Brad Davis, Jose Torres and Joe Corona to join the team in Columbus and play in tonight's match.
Mexico, meanwhile, underwent a coaching change recently and will be under interim coach Luis Fernando Tena, who has taken over after Jose Manuel de la Torre was fired just hours after the team's loss to Honduras.
Under a new regime, though possibly only for the time being, Mexico is in desperate need of points and looks to bounce back from a rough loss Friday while the US tries to push its way towards qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. The stakes are pretty high tonight when Mexico and the Americans take the field for what promises to be a fight to the finish.
