The 2015-16 PGA Tour season returned on Thursday and just as everyone expected, Brendan Steele jumped atop the leaderboard with nine birdies. Jhonattan Vegas is just one stroke off the pace at 8-under.

Rory McIlroy -- who enters the season ranked No. 3 in the world -- is tied for 13th after shooting a 4-under par 68. Undeterred, McIlroy viewed Thursday's round as a step in the right direction.

"Gave myself a lot of chances," McIlroy said, per PGATour.com. "I converted a few, but I'll need to hole a few more. I feel like this is a golf course that you can give yourself a lot of chances.

"If I can keep hitting the ball the way I am and just hole a few more, I'll be OK."
