The joke is either on us or the Kings.

Mercurial point guard Rajon Rondo created a internet buzz during an interview with Cowbell Kingdom when he said he had been fighting with Kings coach George Karl.

Rondo was asked about various teammates after the team's Tuesday night exhibition win over the Lakers, and then the conversation turned to Karl and how their relationship was going.

"It's not been going too well," Rondo said. 'We got into a couple arguments the last couple of days. Hopefully, we continue to talk, and it will get better."

Ha, ha. Isn't that funny? Rondo wants us to think so, according to Larry Brown Sports.

"Anyone that knows me, I have a dry sense of humor, I can keep a straight face when I'm joking," said the four-time All-Star, per Jason Ham of CSN California. "Nothing between George and I."

Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee backed Rondo's comments.

So Rondo basically decided to embarrass the Cowbell Kingdom reporter and make Kings fans wonder if he was going to have a repeat performance of last season, when he fought with Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle.

Carlisle and the Mavericks concocted a story that Rondo had a back injury so they could bench him for the playoffs with as little distraction as possible, according to Complex.com, which took Rondo's interview as fact.

The Dallas players later voted to cut out Rondo of a share of the additional money they receive for participating in the postseason.

Karl, meanwhile, clashed in the offseason with star big man DeMarcus Cousins and tried to trade him away without the consent of Sacramento management.

That made Rondo's comments about his relationship with Karl more believable. And made fools of us all.

"If Rondo wants to be this generation's Andy Kaufman, not caring what anyone else thinks and just making jokes in order to entertain himself, then by all means," Larry Brown Sports commented.
