The Cowboys have lost three straight games since Tony Romo went down with a broken collarbone, and even though backup Brandon Weeden hasn’t been a disaster under center, they’re just not winning. The Cowboys made a trade two weeks ago for Matt Cassel, who seems poised to take over for Weeden after their Week 6 bye.

In limited action, Cassel and Weeden are a combined 1-6 in seven starts since 2014, and have a combined 39-57 record as starters in their careers. Both guys flash competence, but neither flashes greatness. There is one free agent quarterback out there, however, who has been great in an unconventional fashion. Texas’ own governor tweeted about him when Romo went down in Week 2.

Jerry Jones Talks About Signing Greg Hardy

His name is Tim Tebow.

Maybe he’s on to something. Tebow showed some improvement in his passing ability during the 2015 preseason, when he pushed hard to be the No. 3 quarterback on the roster. His strength is clearly as a runner, but that could be just what Dallas needs. Dez Bryant’s out with a foot injury anyway, and Dallas’ running back by committee approach has failed to replicate DeMarco Murray’s dominance in 2014.

Christine Michael Is A Bad Fit To Replace Lance Dunbar

In 2011, Tebow 8.7 times per game and averaged 47 yards. In total, he rushed for 660 yards and six touchdowns. Most importantly, he won. Tebow was 7-4 in his lone season with extended time as a starter, and led a road upset of the Steelers in the playoffs.
