The stage wasn’t too big for Stephen Piscotty and Tommy Pham Friday night. The Cardinals rookies -- now postseason tested -- passed with flying colors. Homers in the eighth inning of Game 1 propelled St. Louis to a 4-0 victory over the Cubs.

For Pham, it was a moment he’s been prepared for.

“In the Minor Leagues, we're kind of groomed to come up here and contribute right away," Pham said, per MLB. "The expectations are high for us. So when we come here, we expect to help out the team.”

The duo is now in elite company, joining George Watkins, Mike Shannon and Randal Grichuk as the only Cardinals rookies to homer in their first postseason game.

Young, wild and free, the duo feeds off each other’s energy.

“When Tommy hit his, we were so fired up when he came across, I think we broke his necklace or something," Piscotty said. "I don't know what happened. His home run took a tremendous amount of pressure off me in my at-bat, and who knows?

“Maybe I don't hit that home run if he doesn't come through with that one.”

They’ll look to build off that momentum in Game 2 Saturday night.
