After homers and injuries defined Game 1, the Rangers and Blue Jays have a quick turnaround when they take the field at Rogers Centre for Game 2 of the American League Division Series.

Texas won Thursday's game by a 5-3 count to take a 1-0 series lead and were bolstered by homers from Robinson Chirinos and Rougned Odor. Jose Bautista went deep for Toronto in Game 1, but he later left with hamstring tightness in the eighth inning.

In Game 2, Cole Hamels (13-8, 3.65 ERA) toes the rubber for the Rangers, while the Blue Jays counter with Marcus Stroman (4-0, 1.67).

Things To Know

--The Blue Jays didn't only lose Bautista as MVP candidate Josh Donaldson left Game 1 with a head injury, but passed concussion protocol. Both players are in the Game 2 lineup. The Rangers lost third baseman Adrian Beltre to a back injury in Game 1, and he is not in the lineup. Texas went 11-8 in games without the slugger during the regular season.

--Stroman hasn't faced the Rangers this season, and Hamels hasn't gone up against the Blue Jays. The Toronto right-hander is making his playoff debut, while Hamels is 7-4 with a 3.09 ERA in the postseason through 13 starts -- all with the Phillies.

--The Blue Jays and their vaunted lineup led the MLB with 232 home runs in the regular season, but they were out-slugged 2-1 in that department Thursday.
