The Spanish capital will be divided on Sunday when Real Madrid travel to the Vicente Calderon to face their arch rival. Atletico Madrid (12) are just two points behind Real (14) in the table entering Matchday 7, but more than three points are on the line.

Real Madrid Should Sell Karim Benzema, Buy Robert Lewandowski

The pride of the capital and bragging rights will consume both sides for 90 minutes.

Rich with history, below are the rivalry’s most iconic moments.

Orlando City Target Cristiano Ronaldo

1992 Copa del Rey Final

Atletico have always played second fiddle to Real, but not in 1992. Entering the Copa del Rey final, then-manager Luis Aragones raised the bar, picking up a bottle and embarking on a bizarre motivational speech.

"See this bottle?" he asked, per the Guardian. "We're going to stick it up their arses! Right the way up!

"Forget tactics. It's Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. They've been sticking it up our arses for so long, now it's our chance to stick it up theirs!"

They did en route to a 3-1 victory.

1959 European Cup Semifinal

Before Lisbon, there was Zaragoza in 1959, the only other time these two clubs met in European knockout competition.

The result was the same, seeing Madrid reach the final.

2013 Copa del Rey Final

Prior to 2013, it had been 14 years since Atletico managed to defeat Real. For 23 consecutive matches, the Rojiblancos suffered the same fate. That is, until, the Copa del Rey final at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was a turning point in the rivalry, seeing Atletico emerge victorious with a 2-1 performance.

2014 Champions League Final

Two clubs from the same city had never before featured in the final of the Champions League. Atletico and Real changed all that in 2014.

Like in finals past, Atletico were just moments from an improbable 1-0 victory. But Sergio Ramos was not about that life.

The CB’s towering header in stoppage time set the stage for extra time. Gareth Bale would deliver, lifting Real to a 4-1 victory and the all important “Decima,” the club’s 10th European trophy.
