You can claim you tune into NASCAR for the thrill of the race, but habitual left turns mean nothing without a little friction. Without condoning injury or death, the possibility of some fireworks on the track is what will lead many to Sunday’s Sylvania 300.
Before you do, relive the craziest crashes in the event’s history.

Kurt Busch 2005
Three laps, that’s how long Kurt Busch lasted in 2005 before returning to pit road. To his credit -- unlike Mike Bliss, Robby Gordon, Jimmy Spencer and a slew of others -- Busch returned to the track for 233 laps and placed 35th.
Ryan Newman finished the race with a victory.
Dale Jarrett 2003
Ryan Newman and Bill Elliott had no remorse for Dale Jarrett in 2003. Stalled in the center of the track, Jarrett saw the two race past him to the caution flag, much to his chagrin. Fortunately for Jarrett -- with his steering wheel off -- no further damage was delivered to his No. 88 car.
Robby Gordon 2004
From the start, it was a tough run at the 2004 Sylvania 300 for Robby Gordon. The 46-year-old lasted a few turns before spinning out of control. He would return to be penalized two laps for rough driving. He finished 32nd, with 293 laps run.
