The two biggest clubs in Mexico -- well, America and the giant formerly known as Chivas Guadalajara -- will meet for the 218th time on Saturday. The two have crossed paths since Aug. 1943. In total, America leads the all-time series 78-71-63.

Chivas also trail in the trophy department, boasting only 11 to America’s 12.

Rich with history, below are the rivalry’s five most iconic moments.

The Riot of 1983

The second leg of the semifinals of the 1982-83 season wasn’t the most aesthetic contest, but it was easily the most brutal. This wasn’t 22 soccer players rolling on the ground 20 times after taking contact on the ankle.

This was a brawl.

Chivas eventually advanced to the final at America’s expense.

The 1983-84 Final

As rich as this rivalry’s history is, it’s only been contested in a final once. The two crossed paths again in 1984. Tied 2-2 on aggregate, America dominated at the Estadio Azteca, cruising to a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Aug. 22, 1956

Chivas can’t claim the most victories, nor the most titles, but they can claim the most embarrassing result. On Matchday 7 of the 1956 season, America visited Guadalajara with the intention of stealing three points.

They walked away battered and undressed by a 7-0 scoreline.

Clasico No. 200

Chivas and America battled for the 200th time in 2008. As with most iconic moments in this rivalry’s history, it was Guadalajara that emerged victorious.

America 3-3 Chivas

In terms of aesthetic football, few contests top 2005’s 3-3 draw in Mexico City. The brilliance of Cuauhtemoc Blanco’s passing could only be outdone by the thunderous foot of Juan Francisco Palacio.

Trailing 3-2 in the dying moments of the match, Palacio put an exclamation point on the most exciting match of this history’s rivalry.
