Kevin Kolb News [VIDEO] Buffalo Bills Place Quarterback On Injured Reserve With Concussion, Could Signal The End Of His Playing Days

Kevin Kolb hasn't suggested his career is over, but his 2013 season was wiped out Friday. Reports indicate that Kolb isn't contemplating retirement, but it may be out of his hands as his career could possibly be over depending on the lingering effects of the head injury.

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone told NFL.com that the signal caller isn't hanging up his cleats just yet, but he will not play in 2013 as the team placed him on the season-ending injured reserve Friday. Kolb received a concussion on a hit in the first quarter of the Bills 30-7 loss to the Washington Redskins last Saturday in a preaseason Week 3 game.

A video of the hit that possibly ended his career can be seen below:

The Bills didn't wait to see if Kolb's post-concussion symptoms improved considering the fact that he struggled to overcome a serious concussion when he was playing with the Arizona Cardinals last season. The Bills opted to end Kolb's season with a trip to the injured reserve due to his history of bad head injuries.

With Kolb's injury and Bill's 2013 first round pick (No. 16 overall) T.J. Manuel recovering from knee surgery, the Bills will turn to Jeff Tuel to start for them in the Week 1 regular-season opener when they take on their division-rival New England Patriots at home Sept. 8 unless Manuel can recover in time. The Bills also released quarterback Matt Leinart Friday and placed return man Brad Smith on the season-ending injured reserve along with Kolb.

Speculation surrounding Kolb's career possibly being over due to the head injury surfaced right after the injury happened, but Marrone suggested that Kolb isn't calling it a career quite yet and is determined to make it back to an NFL field next year.

The Bills are hoping to improve on a lackluster 2012 campaign where the team went 6-10 and finished fourth in the AFC East, missing the playoffs for the 13th-straight season.

Last year before his head injury, Kolb played in six games with Arizona, going 109-for-183 for 1,169 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
